Using the simulator
Overview
SNMP Agent Simulator is a Java-based application that simulates SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 agents. It runs on platforms with a Java Virtual Machine, including UNIX, Linux, macOS, and Windows. You can develop, test, and train with SNMP management applications without purchasing or maintaining hardware devices.
Typical uses of SNMP Agent Simulator include:
- Developers and testers can work without physical SNMP agents. Simulator data files are easy to modify, making it possible to test a wider range of cases.
- Sales and training staff can give live demonstrations on a laptop without carrying network devices. A single laptop can simulate a complex network.
