Getting started
Installation
Requirements
- Windows, Linux, macOS, and UNIX operating systems
- At least 1024 MB of memory is required.
Installation Procedures
1. Installing the simulator
On Windows, run setup.exe to start the simulator installer. On Linux, unzip simulator_linux_x64.zip. On macOS, run simulator.pkg. On UNIX, unzip simulator.zip (Java 21 or later must be installed).
The installation has the following directory structure:
Directory Name | Description |
bin | Contains Windows scripts |
devices | Contains device library data |
doc | Contains the user guide in PDF and HTML formats |
jre | Java Runtime Environment |
mib | MIB files |
lib | Contains binary JAR files |
log | Stores log files |
config | Stores the simulator configuration file |
examples | Cisco router and Windows 2000 SNMP agent simulators |
2. Starting the simulator
On Windows, double-click the simulator icon on the desktop or in the Start menu. You can also run the bin\runUI.bat script from the command line.
On macOS, click the “SnmpSimulator” icon in the Applications folder.
On other platforms, run bin/runUI.sh.
After startup, you can create a project or open an existing one. Opening a project for the first time, or after a data file changes, may be slow because the simulator converts the XML data and inserts it into the database. Subsequent openings are faster once the data is stored.
